From School Library Journal Grade 3-5-- Although strictly speaking this is not a museum exhibit catalog, it does nevertheless focus on the "Sharks: Fact & Fantasy" exhibit that appeared at the National History Museum of Los Angeles County and other museums throughout the country. The text contains interesting facts about many species of sharks, but because it is organized around a specific exhibit rather than by subject matter, its appeal and usefulness are limited. The full-color photographs show what might be one family as they progress through the musuem, looking at the models in different poses. No pretense is made that the illustrations are supposed to be of real sharks, and one close-up photograph of a model mouth full of the never-ending rows of replacement teeth is indeed fearsome. Yet, fabricated models are not as effective as the real thing in illustrating an animal's appearance.
