From the Back Cover The end of the Cold War has dramatically altered the diplomatic chessboard and with it the role of sanctions in the foreign policy arsenal. Superpower rivalry has diminished, but regional conflicts and civil strife have intensified, provoking new multilateral and national sanctions. In addition, governments have been pressed to impose sanctions to demonstrate their outrage against human rights abuses, religious persecution, drug trafficking, terrorism, and nuclear proliferation. This volume summarizes the key conclusions and recommendations from the Institute's extensive empirical work on these issues, contained in Economic Sanctions Reconsidered. Includes selected summary tables.
